Fringed Flower Bookmarks

A warm hello to all my lovely readers. It’s a pleasure to have you here for my next post.

Today's post is about my favorite technique in quilling known as Fringing! It’s a simple technique without requiring much of tools. It is easy and inexpensive since it can be made from just one strip.
There are tools available for making fringes. They are called quilling paper fringers. I do not have a fringer so I fringe the paper by hand with a pair of scissors. Once you get used to fringing with hand you will not require any tool for the purpose.
In my free time I fringe strips of various colors and roll them as and when needed for projects. It does take a long time initially but with practice you can get to do 2 strips in one go. Try cutting your own width of strip to practice making flowers. One can use paper clip to not overcut the strip and keep margins.
For a detailed post about the fringing tutorial refer to Inna's blog. She has explained the concept in depth and with pictures on request. I was fortunate to find her blog when I was learning this technique.

Well fringing is seriously the technique I fall back to when I have to make quick flowers. Just require a strip of paper and pair of scissors and you are good to go. Trust me when I say this, I have made fringed flowers even from a 5 mm strip to almost 30 mm of strips. The 5 mm tiny flowers are so beautiful that can be used for making any kind of miniature project.

The width of the strip determines how small or big size of flower you require for project. If you are using 5 mm strip your flower will be 1 cm in diameter once ready with a tight coil in center.
I usually make my collection in 10 mm and 25 mm strips. Many variations can be done in these like with center coil, without center coil or with a center small fringed coil. My favourite is with center and they are easy to use too.

Earlier I made quilled bookmarks for a friend of mine to be gifted to college professors.
It was my first order on request for the occasion of Teacher’s Day comprising a batch of 18 quilled bookmarks, block printed on one side and a quotation written on the other side.

They were a mixed batch of fringed and quilled flowers bookmarks.

These bookmarks were a huge success and were made in no time. Use these fringed flowers for any creation and they will be loved.

P.S.- Post a credit link to my blog if my artwork inspires you to create a version of yours.

Stay tuned for more updates. See you with the next creation tomorrow.💗
